This summer, two projects we have been quietly working on are now complete — and we'd love for you to see them.

今年夏天，我们悄悄做完了两件事，希望大家都能看到。

Each year, Kingston City Hall dedicates a display case to celebrate the city's history and cultural communities. This year, for the first time, that space belongs to us.

每年，金斯顿市政厅都会开辟一个橱窗，展示这座城市的历史与文化。今年，轮到了我们。

It took more time than we expected — every line of text needed a source, every photo a story, every object a meaning clear enough for any passerby to understand. We are grateful to the City staff who guided us through the process with care and patience.

这个橱窗做起来比预想的费力得多，文字句句要有出处，照片张张要有背景，实物还要让每一位路过的陌生人一眼看懂。感谢市府工作人员的耐心与认真。

The result is a 500-word portrait of our community — a brief history, a story of belonging, and a shared gesture of respect between our community and this city we call home.

最终呈现的是五百余字的社区小传，一段历史，一段融入，以及我们与这座城市之间的一份相互尊重。

If you happen to be near City Hall, please stop by the second floor, just outside the Mayor's office. It's a small display, but it's ours.

Every Qingming, we clean the century-old headstones in the cemetery — some from the late Qing dynasty, many from Taishan, Xinhui, Kaiping. We know our community's history in Kingston runs deep. But so much of it has never been written down.

每年清明，我们都会擦洗墓园里那些百年老碑，清末的，民初的，故乡往往是台山、新会、开平。我们知道华人在金斯顿的历史不短，但太多往事从未被记录下来。

Who placed a memorial stone at the Huang Hua Gang Martyrs' tomb on behalf of the Kingston Chinese community a century ago? Who pooled money to purchase a burial plot so that those who died alone could rest with dignity? We know these things happened. We just don't know the full story — yet.

是谁在百年前以金斯顿华社名义向黄花岗七十二烈士墓敬献石碑？是谁集资购置义冢，让无儿无后的同胞也能有尊严地安息？我们知道这些事曾经发生，却不知道完整的来龙去脉。

Thanks to the vision of Betty Lee and the efforts of Erin and our colleagues, the Kingston Chinese Community Heritage Project now has a home online at history.ccakd.ca. Stories will be added as they are gathered, and a full oral history and photo archive will be donated to the Queen's University Archives.
